Why you should have your party at Refettorio Felix

Megan Schiller

There is something very special about events at Refettorio Felix. Seeing a space transform from a community kitchen, serving the vulnerable adults of our community, into a space that also celebrates the coming together of family and friends, is very special.

People often ask what can be done in our space, as sometimes you can only envision the canteen-style dining that we set out during the day. But we have had everything from bouncy castles to dancefloors, photobooths to soft play areas, yoga classes to book launches - even a unicorn (it’s a long story).

What’s quite unique about the venue is that you’re starting from a blank (but very beautiful) canvas, which can very easily be dressed up to something quite magical.

Some people choose to go for a very minimal dining style: hessian runners down the tables, simple flower arrangements, and allow for the natural light and our lanterns take centre stage.

Others bring in production teams and event planners to transform the venue: removing our tables and bringing in soft seating, bars, round tables, and uplights completely transforms the space.

Ali Gillum is a table scaper and florist who first came to the space in October 2022 for an Autumnal-style wedding. Now, people choosing our venue often bring in Ali to dress the room. Ali says, “There is such a great depth to the events hosted at Refettorio. I always love being involved and seek to make the space beautiful to gather your guests with purpose and beauty”.

Weddings at the venue come in all shapes and sizes: as we are so close to both Marleybone and Chelsea Town Hall, we’re a great choice for couples who want a reception close by - just a vintage bus ride away.

Couples who would like an intimate, cosy celebration like our venue - we’ve had weddings of 40 people, with table set up in a cosy U-shape so nearly everyone is facing each other.

Alternatively, some choose to have a sit-down meal of up to 100 people, and invite up to 50 more for the evening, using the stage for a band or a DJ to set up.

We pride ourselves in being a dry hire: we understand how frustrating it is finding the venue of your dreams and not being able to choose a caterer that has a personal connection to you.

Saying that - we also know how it feels to plan an event and not know where to start with feeding your guests: bowl food and canapés, family style or 3-course meal - or sourdough pizza out of a van, festival style? The opportunities are endless - if a little overwhelming. That’s why we have some of our friends on hand as recommended suppliers. Cater London, Tasting Plates, POW Food, The Pickled Fork - and our plant-based option Planted can help with everything from Weddings to children’s parties and everything in between.

We normally look at booking at least 6 months in advance, but due to some heavy construction last year we still have lots of availability for this summer.
