Each meal we serve is not just a number, but a small step towards a more inclusive and resilient community.

“Over the years, Refettorio Felix has been like a loving family, at times when I needed a safe harbour in the storm. My beloved mother left us a year ago, and having the benefit of a bereavement class, prepared me for the loss I felt. Marilyn, our therapist, and other attendees will attest to the fact that we were not alone. There are many bad choices out there - drugs, alcohol and other vices. I chose to be here today clear-eyed and would like to say thanks for getting me here.”

— Andrew, Refettorio Felix guest 2022

  • Homelessness

The annual rough sleeping snapshot (2023) shows that 3,898 people were sleeping rough across England - an increase of 27% from the previous year. This is the sharpest rise over a 12-month period since 2015. The number of people sleeping rough is 61% higher than it was ten years ago and 120% higher than when data collection began (2010). We aim to combat homelessness by providing a safe haven, with spaces for counselling, to relax, or shower and wash clothing. These services are crucial for individuals experiencing housing insecurity.

  • Food Poverty

In England, 2.6 million emergency food parcels were distributed in the past year, the highest on record, with nearly 1 million of these going to children. This is a 38% increase from 2022. Concurrently, 9% of households with children are experiencing food poverty. At Refettorio Felix, we alleviate some of this stress by offering balanced and nutritious meals, as well as a takeaway service of hot food and bread. Alongside meals, we offer nutrition advice to equip our guests with the knowledge to make better food choices, even on a low budget.

  • Social Inclusion

For marginalised people, there are many barriers to participating in the world fully. Social isolation is linked to loneliness, depression and other physical and mental health issues. The Centre provides a safe space for people from all different backgrounds of life to connect. We provide free psychotherapy, counselling and advice services. With a smile and an open door policy, we welcome people experiencing isolation and/or marginalisation to come into our warm, judgement-free environment and feel part of a community.
